In order to maximize the benefits of a full body workout routine, you need to adequately target all of your major muscle groups within each workout.

You need to do so in a balanced manner such that your muscles grow and strengthen proportionately overtime. Leading to not only a more aesthetic physique but also minimizing your risk of injury.

Ever seen the movies or pictures of early body builders aka carnival strongmen?
They were considered freaks by the standards of the days in which they lived and had to make a living in the carnivals and circuses as freaks. By today’s standards they aren’t that big, but by the standards of their day, they were very well developed.

I guess for their day they knew something everyone else didn’t.

Fast forward to the 1950’s when science really started to be used in body building. By the 1970’s the Weider Brothers publications started to introduce more scientific methods that before you had to purchase a “program” like Joe Atlas sold in the back of comic books.

My epiphany occurred in that period when I started reading and learning. I never used Performance Enhancing Drugs, but just used hard work and decent nutrition.

To be honest there is a lot of noise out there and finding what is right for you is like looking for cotton balls in a snow storm. Too many people are trying to make money selling the latest fad system that guarantees results in time frames that are only realistic for a very few. The same goes for supplements…too many folks trying to make a profit by promising the moon and too many people looking for the best sort cut that will allow them to avoid the hard work.

Many are unscrupulous and taut systems that the practitioner will later regret adopting due to injuries now or those that will not surface for decades. I am 63 years old, and have lifted for over 40 years and doing stupid things comes back to haunt you when you get old. I see that in the gym every day. People pulling shoulder ligaments, tearing rotator cuffs, blowing out their low backs all because they are doing shit some asinine trainer or some system told them to do.

There is very little the science has not explained with regard to human body building. Sure they know the processes better, but as far as exercises go, take a look at some of the lifters from the 1970’s…Franco Columbo, Arnold, Frank Zane, Lou Ferrigno…sure they might have done steroids, but that isn’t the point. The Full Body Workout Plan (Overview)

First off, to clarify, this full body workout routine consists of 3 workout days per week and will alternate between two different full body workouts like so:

Monday – Workout A


Tuesday – Rest

Wednesday – Workout B

Thursday – Rest

Friday – Workout A

Saturday/Sunday – Rest

Monday – Workout B

Tuesday – Rest

Wednesday – Workout A

Thursday – Rest

Friday – Workout B

Both workout A and workout B will be covered in this article.

Each workout will consist of mainly compound movements with a mix of various accessory exercises to minimize any potential muscle imbalances.
