I’m a regular Quoran – and I had exactly this question when my almost 6 year old decided to do just this. Thankfully I also now have an answer for it.

First – you can, in fact, hold it. For a long time it would appear.

My family just took a vacation to Legoland. We had all been getting sick in turn, and he was sick two days before Legoland itself and was feeling mostly better by the day of. He had diarrhea the night before, but he was jumping and happy as we left. He has a twin brother as well and both were excited to go to Legoland.

We got there and had a great day. He didn’t go to the bathroom once. We got there at 11:00. He drank his whole waterbottle twice over. He ate a lunch. Just about the end of the day he said he wasn’t feeling well. He hadn’t felt well two days before and at the time we let him use the stroller for our 1.5 year old, and so we just chalked it up to this and let him use it again. He told us he wasn’t feeling good at closing time.

But the Lego store was still open. So we perused that for an hour. He didn’t complain again except to say his tummy hurt.

We surprisingly met my cousin there and she offered to treat us to dinner at 6:30. So when it closed at 5 we were just taking our time.

When we went to meet with my cousin he said he still wasn’t feeling well, I looked at him. The stroller was too small for him and it looked like he was arching his back, and puffing out his stomach. I asked him why he was arching his back. He said he wasn’t. I had him stand up, and that’s when I saw that his entirle belly was distended.

He looked a lot like this kid except my kids back wasn’t arched at all.

It freaked me out. I called my cousin who happened to have a nurse friend. I didn’t know what was going on, but we determined his belly wasn’t firm, and it didn’t hurt when we pushed on it. At that point my wife asked when he last went potty.

I knew he hadn’t been all day. I decided to take him potty. I asked him if he needed to go potty, he said that he didn’t. I took him anyway.

As I sat him on the toilet, I almost prayed this was all it was – him not going potty. It had been all day after all.

Then he proceeded to “let it out”. First it was a couple toots, which he denied were his. I told him “I really hope it was because you’re really worrying me”

Then his body let go and emptied. And emptied, and emptied again into the toilet. And it stank horribly.

By the time he was done he was a new kid, though I don’t know if the toilet ever recovered. His body was back to normal. If I had to hazard a guess I would say that his 5-year-old body was likely holding about 1.5 liters of material inside it.

I told him to not do that again.
